How do I track all the subdomains for my site in separate profiles?
Print
There are two methods for tracking multiple subdomains separately:
Method A)
Use the same tracking code for all subdomains, with filters to separate the report data. Here's how:
1. Create a profile for a new domain. Or you can use an existing profile by clicking Check Status on the "Edit Profile" page to access the Tracking Code Wizard.
2. Select One domain with multiple subdomains under the "Standard options".
3. Copy the resulting code on all pages on all subdomains of the site.
Method B)
Create a new web property for each subdomain, where the reports are filtered automatically (Note: This method is easier to implement, but won't allow you to track a single user across multiple subdomains). Here's how:
1. Click +Add new profile to the right of the appropriate web property number (E.g. UA-xxxxx-yy).
2. Give the new profile a descriptive name, such as "subdomain1.example.com profile".
3. Create a new custom filter to include just the traffic to that subdomain.
This will now provide you with a main profile that records data for all the subdomains, as well as an individual profile for each subdomain.
